Oak Porch with Dwarf Wall
When Trevor Slater wanted an enclosed Oak Porch making for his lovely home in the North East, he approached Oak By Design after finding the website online.
He made contact after admiring a photo on the website of a porch previously made for a property in Oxford. See here.
It was just the style he had in mind. He had built a dwarf wall for the porch to sit on at the front of his home and he also required 6 Hangman’s Brackets. Furthermore, solid oak internal seating was needed that acted as small storage areas for footwear.
A site visit was organised to measure up and working drawings were supplied. These drawings form an important part of the process to ensure easy installation on site.
This oak porch has a shallow pitched roof as the overall height did not want to compromise the first-floor window. Other considerations would be rainwater drains and existing outside lights.
The oak porch has also been under boarded using solid oak boards measuring 165mm x 15mm. These are tongue and grooved, which can be seen in the photos. As well as covering the underside of the roof to give a streamlined finish, this is also ideal for hiding any wiring for lights or lamps fitted.
Each of the legs has a stainless steel rod inserted in the base to enable the legs to stand slightly proud of the wall. This ensures the legs aren’t stood in standing water when the weather is very British!
All the timbers are planed and finished at 140mm x 140mm, mortice and tenoned throughout, sanded and sealed with a UV Oil.
