When Howerd Creber was looking for an oak porch to ‘finish off’ his lovely home in Oxenhope, in the beautiful ‘Bronte Country’ near Haworth, he did what we all do – he ‘Googled’.
He wanted to use a local company, so when he found Oak By Design, based near Harrogate, he made contact with them. He liked their website saying, ‘it was easy to navigate and that the clear details, photographs and case studies made it easy to understand.’
He needed the oak porch on a ‘supply only’ basis as he and his son-in-law, who had built the dwarf wall, were going to install the porch themselves.
Even though he lived relatively locally, Howerd dealt with everything over the phone and emails. A detailed diagram was sent to Howerd prior to manufacturing for him to clarify all the measurements. Once he approved the details, it went into production.
Howerd’s porch is slightly unusual in that access is from the side. Porches like this may benefit from guttering as the access beneath the slope of the roof may result in a drenching!
Once ready, local haulage company, STS247, delivered the porch, sent in sections for easier installation.
After the oak porch was finished, Howerd said ‘It has transformed the front entrance to our property, which, being a gable end, had a rather ‘boxy’ look. The oak porch has great character and drawn many complimentary comments. Richard Penny was always available to offer support and advice’
His last comment to Oak by Design was: ‘It does look good!’
