The Purchasing Manager at Ashford Homes, a Wiltshire based independent developer, approached Oak By Design for an oak porch after finding them online.
They were looking to find a manufacturer to supply them with 5 oak porches for ‘Preston Leigh’, a stunning development of 6 contemporary detached homes just minutes away from Cirencester, the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’.
Oak By Design has supplied a number of porches to this particular part of the country, as the oak does blend well with the distinctive stone from this area.
They required different sizes of the oak porches for the different homes. The design was to have one roofline. This would come off the house wall as opposed to a more traditional porch design with a pitched roof.
The front posts were to sit on either the front wall to the property or on a dwarf wall, both built with the beautiful, creamy Cotswold stone. Each front post had a curved bracket to the face of the porch and one to each return. This allows the design to create character and interest, as well as being practical in providing stability to the structure.
The oak posts have integrated stainless steel rods inserted to their base. This is to form a locating rod that can help to position the posts correctly on a pre-built wall.
Instead of having back posts, extended return posts fix into the house wall, forming a clean neat fixing.
A stop chamfer finish, to all the main timbers, created a neat, well-thought-of finish to the porches. A couple of coats of Osmo’s Polyx Exterior Oil in their 429 product finished them off.
Ashford Homes are very happy with the outcome. The additional feature of an oak porch to each property is the first talking point we have when introducing the home to clients.
